Mary and I opted for Bluegrass in North Carolina last night (Thursday) rather than travel north to Gate City, Virginia. I wanted to catch up with Bobby Hicks and say “Hi” to him. As it turned out I ended up picking for two hours with him at the Zuma Coffee House on 7 North Main Street in Marshall, NC. There were threatening clouds and occasional strikes of lightning when we left Greeneville, TN, and headed south on Rte 70. When we got right into the twisting, winding turns going up and down through the Appalachians, the storm broke loose in its fury. Several times I turned off the road into rest areas because of such driving rain, but after a while it all loosened and skies began to clear. I had gotten confused and headed to Weaverville looking for the jam session and kind folks in Weaverville set me on the right course of travel back to Marshall. After some joshing from Mary about my inability to follow simple directions, we finally ended up at the jam session. What a blast we had. I’ve added a few more pictures to the “Bluegrass & Fiddling” page. All photos were taken by Mary. Add Comment |
