Bleecker Mountain
I just love playing with this group of people from the Albany/Saratoga area of New York when they ask me to. I've played several times when they would need a banjoist for a festival gig and it's always a treat. They are such seasoned musicians. The band is comprised of Steve Lane and his wife, Joyce Lane, Leroy Lane (Steve's brother), Gary Blauvelt and Don Hudson (Ken Meyer fills in for Don on occasion). Steve plays guitar and sings most of the lead. Never does a performance go by that the audience doesn't request that Steve's wife, Joyce, come up and sing a few songs. She has a wonderful country voice and is very popular as a singer. Leroy plays the resophonic guitar and performs masterfully on a hand-built guitar he's made. Steve and Leroy both build instruments. The guitar I am using for my work in various bands was made by Steve. He graciously has let me use this guitar for the winter months and for this I am very appreciative. Rounding out the band are Gary Blauvelt playing guitar and doing lead and harmony vocals and Don Hudson on standup or Kenny Meyer - also plays with Cedar Ridge and The Warren County Ramblers and occasionally Washington County Line - playing a steady and solid bass line with the standup when asked to fill in for Don.
Steve and Joyce live in Edinburg, Leroy lives in Bleecker, Gary in Poestenkill, and Don in Clifton Park. Kenny's also from Clifton Park.

Jam session at Don Hudson's RV

I'm not sure who the fiddler is, but next (in clockwise fashion) is Don Hudson playing swing chords on his guitar, then Butch Ryan picking mandolin, Kenny Meyer playing bass, Your's truly playing guitar, Leroy lane (with the cowboy hat) playing his handbuilt resonator guitar and lastly, his brother Steve Lane playing guitar and singing. Steve, Leroy and Don made up the core of the band "Bleecker Mountain" for years, although for a while Don's health kept him from playing and Ken Meyer helped out with bass playing. Don has had a return to good health lately and may very well take over the bass playing again.
Heading for Don and his wife Lois' camper for a jam session is just second nature to me and a good deal of others. It's the same with Steve. I must admit, I spend most of my time jamming with Steve, Leroy and Don and their close friends when I go to festivals. Steve is my favorite singer! Accompanying Steve while he's feeling his way through a song is a rich experience. Then when you add Jim Warren, Leroy Lane and Tom Kuhne on resonator guitars and Don on swing guitar or standup, the boys from Cedar Ridge, and a host of other superpickers and singers from the festival circuit,.....well.....it just don't get no better!!!
